Sunferries Travel have today announced an ANZAC Day offer to all local residents for the upcoming long weekend. In true Aussie spirit, Sunferries Travel are offering a two for one ticket price for travel to Magnetic Island for the upcoming three day weekend Saturday 24 - Monday 26 April.
Locals will be able to enjoy the beaches and bars of Magnetic Island over the long weekend at half the price with two adult tickets to Magnetic Island costing only $29.00.
Sunferries General Manager, Darin McDonald, said that the special offer serves as a good reminder of what our Diggers fought for, our Aussie way of life.
"Magnetic Island offers the ideal Aussie way of life for most Australians. We wanted to be able to give something back to the community this ANZAC Day and offering a more accessible weekend escape or day trip is our way of doing so."
"The island is rich with ANZAC history and it should be explored and appreciated by our community."
Magnetic Island became an important defensive position in World War II with its close proximity to the Townsville military base and deep anchorage areas for war ships.
Florence, Horseshoe and Arthur Bays all have remaining gun posts and lookouts that were used in the Second World War The Forts Walk at Florence Bay is a must do for all history buffs with a number of the gun posts, observation towers and a command post still remaining today along the walking track. The lookout at the top also offers 360 degree views of the Coral Sea, an attribute made very useful in defending our country in World War II.
A dawn service will be held on Magnetic Island at the RSL Magnetic Island Sub Branch in Arcadia Bay with other ANZAC day celebrations taking place around the island this Sunday.
To redeem the two for one offer made available by Sunferries Travel, simply collect the coupon in Friday or Saturday's Townsville Bulletin and present it to Sunferries Travel sales staff at the Breakwater Terminal this weekend.
